University of Tokyo researchers developed a theoretical model of heritable non-genetic learning for use with natural selection. They found that the adaptation rate of populations to achieve increased fitness in a changing environment was enhanced. This work may lead to better understanding of biological evolution and more efficient genetic algorithms for optimization problems.
