In Search of the Ideal Glass
Researchers at #UTokyo_IIS use computer simulations of glass-forming particles to discover a new type of exotic ordering impacting the fate of the material.
Researchers from the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo show how previously unrecognized "exotic" configurations of particles contribute to the formation of a glass when a liquid is cooled. Using a computer simulation, they can monitor the packing of particles of various sizes, leading to the discovery of unexpected hidden order within a supercooled liquid.
